Canine Companionship Made in Vermont

What do you really want out of your relationship with your pet? Simply put, Natural Dog Training creates a lasting bond between you and your dog. Learn how to apply the NDT techniques and get the advice you need direct from Kevin Behan, founder and originator of the Natural Dog Training method.

Hands On

Work with Kevin one-on-one with your dog and see the theory put into practice with your own eyes.

Problem Solving. With aggression, obedience issues, and each unique sub-set of issues that’s as unique as your pet, Kevin and Natural Dog Training have a remarkable success rate in dog rehabilitation, regardless of age or breed. The founding principles of NDT will not only explain, but guide you to a true understanding of the nature of your favorite companion.

Just the Details

Kevin Behan offers unique training experiences with people and their pets at his farm in southern Vermont. Packages include hourly sessions, weekend, and even month-long training programs.

Thousands of owners have tried the NDT techniques and seen positive results from the get-go, – without being experts in the method. Take a few moments out of your training routine to truly observe your dog, and then try a session or two of the Pushing Exercise. This is often the path that leads many owners to become true believers of Natural Dog Training.

Kevin’s philosophy isn’t about “fixing” the dog, it’s about fixing the dog-human relationship. It holds that only through cooperation with and nurture of the dog’s true nature that we can have a fulfilled dog-human relationship–an idea that I think lies at the heart of a human evolution towards truly understanding animals.

Natural Dog Training is about how dogs see the world and what this means in regards to training. The first part of this book presents a new theory for the social behavior of canines, featuring the drive to hunt, not the pack instincts, as seminal to canine behavior. The second part reinterprets how dogs actually learn. The third section presents exercises and handling techniques to put this theory into practice with a puppy. The final section sets forth a training program with a special emphasis on coming when called.

If you can do it, spend a month there. Trust me, it’s worth it. You spend every day working with dogs. Your dogs as well as other people’s dogs. And when you’re not physically working with them, you’re talking about technique and theory.

I spent a month there, and it was TOTALLY worth it. I thought I had an understanding of the NDT theory and process before I went, only to find out how little I actually knew. Not just about the NDT process, but about dogs in general. Reading about it and talking about it only go so far, no matter how much great input and direction you get online. Something I realized once I had hit the training wall with my dogs.

And yeah, I can’t forget to mention that Vermont is beautiful. It’s so worth it, I plan on going back just to hang out:)

I’ve been thinking about inquiring about spending some time up there. I’d really like to start fostering dogs again, but I’m not comfortable with that until I get a better grip on training.

    Maybe when it warms up..
