Design In Nature -6- Mar 14, 2012

Design In Nature: “As we have seen time and again, the constructal law was just waiting to be discovered. Its manifestations are so obvious and ubiquitous that we have danced around it for centuries—the hunches of scientists, the metaphors of poets and mystics, and everyday language (for example, “the tree of life,” “go with the […]

Dogs Decoded Jan 20, 2011

Thanks to Chris Duncan for highlighting this film. I have to say it’s a stunning confirmation of NDT view of dog nature, domestication and emotional rapport. 1) Relationship between man and dog much older than previously thought and traces to Gray Wolf. 2) The hunting relationship most likely scenario for inter-species entanglement. Furthermore this […]

Evidence of Group Consciousness Oct 25, 2010

Thanks to Angelique for the following link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/oct/24/bees-route-finding-problems More evidence (scientific) that the nervous system isn’t the source of all intelligence. Maybe the hive of tens of thousands of bees represents ONE MIND and that a number of bees can compute a “vibration” of change as embodied by a scout bee into a collectivized set […]

Evolution of a Group Mind Oct 16, 2010

I’m commenting on the first Wolf Park video submitted wherein a moose head is brought from the cache TO THE CENTER as Energy wants to move! Any two heart cells when placed in a conductive medium synchronize with each others beat. The first thing to do is turn off the sound and learn to see […]

Mother Knows Best? Sep 20, 2010

Donnie poses the following Stump A Chump question: “In one of the Quantum Canine episodes (can’t remember which) you explain a mama dog biting her young not as a correction but as “imprinting fear” so that when they see large prey they know not to go after the strong, healthy ones. Wouldn’t this imply that […]

The Broken Wing Ruse Sep 10, 2010

They blast off like a heart attack. You’re walking on a woodland trail absorbed in the forest’s beauty and stillness when out of nowhere there’s an explosion from underfoot so intense you can virtually feel the slap of wings and the jet wash from a bevy of ruffed grouse bursting out from the underbrush. It’s […]

Seminar: Journey to the Heart of the Dog – Rowe, MA Mar 17, 2010

Click to Register Online Now the subject of increased scientific inquiry, the connection between dogs and human beings is far more profound than ever imagined. Dogs are the only animal to integrate themselves into every aspect of human existence. Dogs know us “by heart”—this is what bonds humans and dogs and each dog to its […]

In the past, when ever I've seen "natural dog training" it has seemed anything but natural to me Mar 11, 2010

It’s true that anyone can claim to be natural and in one sense, everyone is being natural because in the final analysis, the dog responds to what the trainer does through a naturally evolved temperament and so it’s always the dog’s nature that’s being affected no matter how arbitrary the training approach. The term natural […]

Nature Conforms To The Power Of Desire Dec 16, 2009

A discussion as to whether dogs apprehend reality in terms of a virtual rather than an actual field of energy may not seem particularly relevant to training a dog to stay in the yard and staying off the furniture, but it is. Because dogs are social by nature, they do everything in terms of a […]

Born Wild, Trained to be Free Jul 28, 2009

“I don’t want to kill my dog,” the man said. He was near tears. He stood in my office telling me that this should be the happiest time in his life. His newborn son had just come home from the hospital, but his dog was aggressive toward strangers and even worse, with children, and now […]

An Interview with Kevin Behan Jul 26, 2009

Every new client asks me what I think about Cesar Millan the “Dog Whisperer.” They want to know where I might agree and where I don’t.  So we had the idea that I would answer questions that were posed to Cesar in an interview he conducted and then one could draw their own distinctions. Link […]

Books about Natural Dog Training by Kevin Behan

In Your Dog Is Your Mirror, dog trainer Kevin Behan proposes a radical new model for understanding canine behavior: a dog’s behavior and emotion, indeed its very cognition, are driven by our emotion. The dog doesn’t respond to what the owner thinks, says, or does; it responds to what the owner feels. And in this way, dogs can actually put people back in touch with their own emotions. Behan demonstrates that dogs and humans are connected more profoundly than has ever been imagined — by heart — and that this approach to dog cognition can help us understand many of dogs’ most inscrutable behaviors. This groundbreaking, provocative book opens the door to a whole new understanding between species, and perhaps a whole new understanding of ourselves.
Natural Dog Training is about how dogs see the world and what this means in regards to training. The first part of this book presents a new theory for the social behavior of canines, featuring the drive to hunt, not the pack instincts, as seminal to canine behavior. The second part reinterprets how dogs actually learn. The third section presents exercises and handling techniques to put this theory into practice with a puppy. The final section sets forth a training program with a special emphasis on coming when called.
